About Me
What a journey it has been...
It has felt like a long, winding road that led me to User Experience but it primarily started with a position in customer service. On a daily basis, I was assisting clients with locating information on our website or helping them with processes they were having difficulty completing. I had daily access to client feedback and I voiced concerns when I noticed trends. Being a voice for the clients allowed me the opportunity to collaborate with marketing and web design teams within the company to discuss wording used in promotions and to provide input on the navigation decisions of the new website being created at that time. These moments opened my eyes to the opportunities that existed to initiate change and I knew I wanted to be a part of it. From that moment on, I felt my path was clear and I was ready to do whatever it took to get there.
These experiences prompted me to enroll in a Graduate program at UW-Madison to complete a degree in Library and Information Studies, with a focus on User Experience and Information Technology. My desire for creating a better customer experience is what led me to the world of UX design but I found that it also fulfilled my longing to use my creative side. In some ways, it has also felt very comfortable as my Undergraduate experience involved a great deal of research on complex issues and then writing or presenting the information in a way that was clear to a general audience. I was able to build upon those skills in Graduate school and practice the specific types of research used in UX. To my surprise, I even started to lead my cohorts in projects. After graduation, I chose to slow things down, as I had spent years working and studying simultaneously. Now that I have had the time to reconnect with family and friends, enjoy some of the hobbies I had been missing, and prepare myself further for my journey through UX... I am now ready to forge ahead and seek out new opportunities!
The road ahead...
Though I have spent years in preparation for a User Experience role, I know that the journey has just begun. As a believer in lifelong learning, I am excited to grow in this field and see the changes that emerge in the industry. At the moment, I have a true passion for the research and writing aspects of User Experience and would love to continue on that path. As I've learned, however, life throws surprises our way so I'm open to any new curves in the road.
